“Reflective thinking turns experience into insight.” ~ John C. Maxwell
December has a way of stirring many things at once—joy, gratitude, fatigue, tenderness, and the quiet ache of unmet hopes. Between celebrations and busyness, it’s easy to rush through the month without ever giving yourself space to breathe. But what if this December could feel different? What if, instead of pushing through the final weeks of the year, you gave yourself permission to slow down, reflect, and quietly make room for renewal?
Reflection isn’t about judging yourself or fixing everything before January arrives. It’s about noticing—noticing what this year held, how God met you in the middle of it, and what parts of your life might be inviting a gentle reset.
In wellness, reflection gives us clarity.
Clarity leads to intentionality.
Intentionality positions us for transformation.
And that is the heart behind our December theme: Reflect Well. Renew Your Heart for the Year Ahead.
Reflection creates space to understand your story rather than rush past it. It helps you pause long enough to see what your life has been quietly teaching you all year.
Here are four simple ways reflection supports your wellness:
1. Naming What Was True This Year
Look back honestly—without judgment—and notice what brought energy, what drained it, what worked, and what didn’t. This isn’t a performance review; it’s simply paying compassionate attention to your life.
2. Recognizing God’s Presence in Your Story
Much of God’s work in us happens quietly. Reflection helps you notice where He strengthened you, comforted you, stretched you, or redirected your path. Even if the year felt heavy, He was there.
3. Understanding Your Patterns
We all repeat rhythms—some helpful, some not. Reflection brings these patterns into the light so you can carry forward what’s healthy and lovingly release what isn’t.
4. Honoring Your Humanity
You lived a real year with real responsibilities, real emotions, and real limitations. Reflection lets you offer yourself compassion rather than criticism. What you carried mattered. Who you are becoming matters even more.
Once we pause long enough to reflect, something subtle begins to shift. Renewal is not a big, dramatic “start over.” It’s a quiet realigning of the heart.
Renewal looks like:
Re-Aligning with what matters most
Re-Filling drained places—physically, emotionally, spiritually
Re-Awakening a sense of purpose, hope, and direction
Renewal is God’s work in you. Your part is simply to create space for it, breathe deeply, and stay open to what He wants to restore.

To make this practical and doable in a busy season, here are three gentle steps to guide you through December:
1. Choose One Area to Reflect On Each Week
Pick one area of wellness —spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, relational, or vocational—and explore what this year held for you in that area.
2. Ask Three Simple Questions
Use these as your weekly anchor points:
What helped me?
What hindered me?
What do I want to keep, release, or adjust for the year ahead?
These questions keep reflection light, honest, and focused on growth, not regret.
3. Make Space for a Small Renewal Practice
Choose one restorative step that fits your season:
A quiet walk
A moment of prayer or worship
A gentle stretch routine
A few minutes of journaling
A commitment to earlier bedtimes
A simple act of kindness
Renewal doesn’t demand big change. It begins with small, steady movements of the heart.
“Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways” – Proverbs 4:26
